Why is Blood Pressure Important?

KEY IMPORTANCE OF BLOOD PRESSURE:
When on The Ketogenic Diet or otherwise, one should have a good understanding of why is Blood Pressure important and its strong relationship to one’s overall Longevity.
One’s Blood Pressure is a very important in relation to one’s longevity outlook. It is also an important disease alarm signaling tool. This is due to its ability to point out the presence of an underlying disease or unhealthy condition.
Furthermore, when one’s Blood Pressure reading is high or low it can, by itself, cause bodily damage and become in itself dangerous to one’s health and longevity.

BLOOD PRESSURE DEFINED
Blood Pressure measurement is converntionally obtained from two separate sound readings through a stethoscope on ones brachial artery taken visually from a pressure cuff indicator which is around one’s left bicep. This yields two readings and three results which are Systolic, Diastolic and Pulse Pressures stated in mm Hg (millimeters of Mercury)
1.Systolic pressure.
The high number in a blood pressure reading is the amount of pressure your heart generates when pumping blood through your arteries to the rest of your body.
2. Diastolic Blood Pressure
The low number Is inferred to be the residual pressure in one’s arterial system when the heart relaxes. This number in a blood pressure reading refers to the amount of pressure in your arteries when your heart is at rest between beats.
3. Pulse Pressure
Is the differential pressure calculated by subtracting the Diastolic Pressure from the Systolic BP pressure. For instance 120 Systolic-80 Diastolic=a 40 Pulse Pressure.

THE “NORMAL” BLOOD PRESSURE STANDARD
The “Normal Blood Pressure Readings” are somewhat arbitary as they vary from time to time and from country to country.
The latest standard by The Joint National Committee 8 Guidelines for the Management of Hypertension in Adults in the general population, is that pharmacologic treatment should be initiated when blood pressure is 150/90 mm Hg or higher in adults 60 years and older. And it should be initated at140/90 mm Hg or higher in adults younger than 60 years. The previous guidelines by The Joint National Committee 7 for nomal was that 120/80 BP was “normal”.

VARIABLES IN TAKING BLOOD PRESSURE READINGS
-Position:
One’s blood pressure reading is supposed to be taken with one seated, rested and with the BP Cuff on one’s left bicep at the same height as the heart. If this is not the positioning when BP is taken, then the reading is not valid for comparative statistical results
-Rest State:
Regarding “rest”, the only dependable and reproducible state is when one has been seated for 10 minutes, relaxed and with very deep belly breathing.
If taken in a Drs. office after one has been in 30 minutes of traffic, gone through the aggravating Doctor reception check in, rushed back to the Doctor’s office, and is concerned that one’s blood pressure reading might be too high, this is not a valid rested state.
-Bicep Size:
This a variable when Blood Pressure is taken with a bicep cuff. One’s bicep can vary all the way from a 120 pound woman to a 240 pound weight lifter. All the pressure readings are taken by compression of the bicep muscles to crush the underling artery. It is only logical to assume that the pressure on the biceps of the 240 pounder to crush one’s bicep tighter will be greater on the 240 pounder. The BP cuff must be the exact correct size for one’s bicep.
-Auditory sensitivity:
The sound sensitivity of the person or machine taking the blood pressure is a variable. This will affect the numbers subscribed to one’s blood pressure. Naturally, the more acute the sound sensitivity is of the person or device, the higher the Systolic blood pressure will be recorded and the lower the Diastolic BP will be recorded. And the higher the Pulse Pressure number will be recorded.
-Drugs
Drugs in one’s system have an effect.
-State of mind
Whether one is relaxed or in a state of stress has a big effect.
-Time of Day
Time of day should be constant.
Blood pressure is usually lowest at night and rises sharply on waking.
-Last meal
-Constipation
Cuff Size:
This needs to be the correct for bicep or wrist.

IMPORTANCE OF BLOOD PRESSURE RESULTS
Blood pressure is a general indication of one’s health. Most importantly one must understand that it is NOT a disease but a symptom.
There is an underlying reason that one’s blood pressure is out of range.
And, by just treating it as a disease and ignoring the cause of what the blood pressure reading is telling is negligent at best!
However, it is important to understand that High Blood pressure, though a symptom, can be very damaging and dangerous in itself.

UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES OF MEDICATIONS
One’s body is smart. When meds are used to fight against it, there can be unintended consequences.
For instance, those taking blood pressure lowering medications experience a 30% increase in strokes. This is presumably because the body is smart and wants and needs a higher BP for a reason. So one’s body causes the arteries to narrow in an effort to maintain and fight the blood pressure medicine and to achieve its desired higher BP that the brain needs. Narrowing of the arteries in one’s brain thus increases the chance for a stroke as there is a smaller diameter for the blood contents to pass through.
All arteries have a muscle layer that contracts trying to make the BP go up to needed levels.
Plus, the heart pumps harder and faster to assist in this attempt.

HOME MONITORING OF ONE’S BLOOD PRESSURE
One’s blood pressure is of such importance that one should take charge of self monitoring. If one is borderline, readings should be taken daily.
This could be preferable instead of the inconvenience, time and cost of going to the Doctor periodically to have it measured. Further, one can check BP regularly and daily if needed at home with often better uniformity of results.
Yes I want to get the Care Touch Blood Pressure Monitor, then there is now available a very accurate and convenient high tech home wrist BP monitoring device which is far superior to any bicep device and one should get, due to its positioning accuracy and ease of even daily use. HOME BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORING BASICS
-Preparing for a Reading:
Avoid eating, drinking alcohol or caffeinated beverages, smoking, exercising or bathing for 30 minutes prior to taking a measurement. It is also best to rest for 15 minutes before starting the measurement. Avoid taking a measurement during stressful times. Take the measurement in a quiet place.
-Best Time for a Reading:
Try to take readings at the same general times each day (for example, once in the morning and once at night) for comparison purposes.
-Your Position:
Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Rest your arm on a table with your palm facing upward. The cuff should be level with your heart. Do not talk or move during the measurement.
-Breath: Breath deeply for at least 5 minutes with 10 minutes being preferable.
-Taking a Reading:
Take two or three readings, a minute or so apart. Work out the average.
-Store and Review:
Store and review your readings. This monitor can store results for later review at the push of a button, so one can share the results with one’s doctor.

  Memory loss,
  Stroke
Severe damage to your body’s main artery
Chest pain
Heart attack
Sudden impaired pumping of the heart
Sudden loss of kidney function
Complications in pregnant women

2.Low Blood Pressure
-Causes
Some experts define low blood pressure as readings lower than 90 mm Hg systolic or 60 mm Hg diastolic. If either number is below that, one’s pressure is lower than normal.
Low blood pressure might seem desirable, and for some people, it causes no problems.
But, if drops suddenly or is accompanied by signs and conditions one should seek immediate medical attention.
Medical conditions that can cause low blood pressure include:
  Pregnancy.
  Heart problems
  Endocrine problems.
Thyroid/parathyroid disease, adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s disease),  low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and, in some cases, Diabetes can trigger
  Dehydration/Blood and/or fluid loss..
  Severe infection (septicemia).
  Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)..
Lack of nutrients in your diet.
  Medications
-Dangers
  Dizziness or lightheadedness
  Fainting (syncope)
  Falling
  Blurred vision
  Nausea
  Fatigue
  Lack of concentration
  Shock
  Confusion, especially in older people
  Cold, clammy, pale skin
  Rapid, shallow breathing
  Weak and rapid pulse

3.Large Pulse Pressure
-Causes
A leaky valve which is Leakage back into the heart.
-Dangers
A pulse pressure greater than 60 can be a useful predictor of heart attacks or other cardiovascular disease; this is especially true for men. Moreover, some cardiologists feel that a Pulse Pressure of 100 or greater is critical.

BLOOD PRESSURE ACTIONS ONE MUST TAKE
One must recognize that a BP deviation is an alarm calling one to action.
And, one should have and take control of  the important ability to monitor one’s BP oneself.
Note that one’s body is very smart and is striving to obtain an abnormal high or low BP for a reason.
And, understand that the body is fighting in its best interest to overcome the disease or condition problem by adjusting its BP.
So it is important to address especially high BP and also find the cause that is affecting the abnormal BP and address it.

THE BLOOD PRESSURE PERSPECTIVE
Regarding why is blood pressure important, it is that once Blood Pressure deviates from normal, one makes a big mistake if one does not recognize that such is a symptom should not to be ignored.
Just proceeding to correcting the BP with blood pressure medication,  masks the cause of an abnormal Blood Pressure.
Thus, if the blood pressure is corrected back to normal with medication, one should seek out the cause of the abnormal blood pressure and attempt to deal with and correct it.
In other words, one should not turn off the fire alarm and ignore the fire.
